Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, English-language Medicine Program, in 2003, after completing his secondary education at İstiklal Makzume Anatolian High School. He completed his Ophthalmology specialty training at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital and Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital, becoming an Ophthalmology Specialist in 2009.
Following residency training, he served as a military physician in Adana and then fulfilled his compulsory public service obligation in Antakya/Hatay.
In 2011, he returned to Istanbul and worked for approximately 8 years at the Etiler branch of Dünya Göz Hospital, one of Turkey’s largest ophthalmology hospital networks. During this period, he gained extensive clinical and surgical experience, particularly in oculoplastic surgery, eyelid surgery, periocular aesthetics and facial plastic surgery.
During his work at Dünya Göz Hospital Etiler, he evaluated a large number of patients and performed surgical procedures in areas including eyelids, eyebrows, lacrimal system, periocular tumors, reconstructive surgery and periocular aesthetics.
In August 2019, he took part in the establishment of Revo Clinic in Levent/Beşiktaş, one of Turkey’s first aesthetic clinics focused on the periocular area and the face.
At Revo Clinic, he continued his work in eyelid aesthetics, blepharoplasty, periocular rejuvenation, facial aesthetics, oculoplastic surgery and reconstructive procedures. Working in the field of oculoplastic surgery and periocular aesthetics in Istanbul, Dr. Solmaz considers eye health and the protection of vision to be a core priority in all medical and surgical procedures, alongside aesthetic outcomes.
In addition to his clinical work, Asst. Prof. Op. Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz also serves in academia as a faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine of Istanbul Health and Technology University (ISTUN).
At ISTUN Faculty of Medicine, he contributes to the education of medical students in both the Turkish-language and English-language Medicine programs, sharing his clinical and academic experience in ophthalmology, oculoplastic surgery, patient safety, surgical decision-making and the protection of vision with future physicians.
For Dr. Solmaz, medicine is not limited to patient care. Transferring knowledge and experience to new generations of physicians is an important part of academic responsibility and of the medical profession. Therefore, academia, clinical practice and scientific research are complementary pillars of Dr. Solmaz’s professional approach.
Having focused on oculoplastic surgery since his residency years, Op. Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz has experience in more than 25,000 surgical cases in oculoplastic surgery, a field primarily involving surgical procedures related to the eyelids, eyebrows and lacrimal system.
He also has extensive experience in numerous medical aesthetic procedures, including botulinum toxin applications, periocular and facial fillers, periocular and facial laser applications and mesotherapy.
Dr. Solmaz’s main areas of focus include eyelid aesthetics, upper and lower eyelid surgery, blepharoplasty, ptosis, periocular tumors and reconstructions, lacrimal duct obstructions and their treatment, Graves’ orbitopathy, prosthetic eye applications after eye loss, and aesthetic and reconstructive procedures involving the periocular and facial regions.
In his approach to oculoplastic surgery, Dr. Solmaz evaluates aesthetic appearance and functional integrity together, with particular emphasis on preserving visual function during eyelid and periocular procedures.
Dr. Solmaz closely follows scientific meetings, training programs and current developments in the constantly evolving fields of ophthalmology, oculoplastic surgery and facial plastic surgery. He is invited as an active speaker to many meetings and seminars, where he shares his professional experience particularly on topics related to the periocular region, eyelid surgery, oculoplastic surgery, facial aesthetics and the protection of vision.
At the invitation of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, he shared his experience with colleagues from different parts of the world in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2017; in Germany in 2018; and in Nice, France, in 2021. Each year, he actively participates in numerous meetings and scientific activities in Turkey and worldwide in the fields of facial plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery and ophthalmology.
The year 2026 has been a particularly significant period for Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz in terms of international academic and scientific visibility. In May 2026, he presented his scientific work to the international ophthalmology community at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting held in Denver, Colorado.
In June 2026, he is participating as a speaker at the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC 2026) in Prague. In July 2026, he will deliver three separate presentations at the EAFPS x IFFPSS Facial Plastic Surgery World Congress 2026 in Cascais/Lisbon, sharing his experience in oculoplastic surgery, periocular aesthetics and facial plastic surgery with international colleagues.
These international scientific contributions demonstrate Dr. Solmaz’s approach of combining clinical experience with scientific output, academic work and international professional exchange.
In today’s world, where aesthetic perception is changing rapidly and more aesthetic procedures are being performed on the face than ever before, protecting the eyes and, therefore, vision carries special importance.
As an ophthalmologist first, the protection and rehabilitation of vision is one of Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz’s fundamental priorities. In the scientific meetings and studies he attends, he specifically emphasizes the importance of protecting eye health during aesthetic procedures.
Considering the importance of the eyes in our lives, maximum attention must be paid to the eyes and visual function when planning any aesthetic procedure, whether medical or surgical. Since irreversible vision-related complications may carry an extremely heavy burden, oculoplastic surgery should be regarded as an indispensable field within facial plastic surgery.
With this approach, Dr. Solmaz believes that in eyelid aesthetics, periocular aesthetics, oculoplastic surgery and facial procedures, functional integrity, eye health and the protection of vision are as important as aesthetic appearance.
Having graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, one of Turkey’s leading medical faculties, in the English-language Medicine Program, Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz has been closely interested in science, innovation and research since his student years.
Combining his clinical experience with scientific production, one of the projects Dr. Solmaz has worked on for years and that has begun to yield results is TelomEye Pharmaceutical, which he founded in Toronto, Canada, in 2022 with several colleagues. The company conducts research in the prevention and treatment of age-related diseases commonly encountered in ophthalmology. In its first funding round, the company received approximately USD 1 million in investment at a valuation of USD 10 million. The company continues human studies related to the products it is focused on developing.
As an international reflection of these scientific efforts, Dr. Solmaz and his team were awarded the “Best Paper of Session” award at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting held in Washington, DC, in 2026, for their innovative work on the treatment of corneal diseases.
This award, received at ASCRS, one of the leading international scientific meetings in ophthalmology, is an important indicator of Dr. Solmaz’s approach of combining clinical experience with academic research, biotechnological innovation and international scientific collaborations.
His participation in the same year at the ARVO Annual Meeting in Denver, the World Ophthalmology Congress in Prague and the EAFPS x IFFPSS Facial Plastic Surgery World Congress in Cascais/Lisbon further reflects his continued approach of integrating clinical experience with international academic exchange, scientific research and biotechnological innovation.
Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz is an active member of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOD), the Facial Plastic Surgery Association (YPCD) and the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS).
Most importantly, Dr. İskender Alkın Solmaz is the father of a son and a daughter.
